Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Robert Leroy Denton, Jr., or Leroy as he prefers to be called, moved to Seaford, Delaware at the age of five, but was only there for a short time, as his family moved to Ayden, North Carolina. He made his was way to Charlotte at the age of sixteen, graduated from East Mecklenburg in 1965 , however, before graduation Leroy was chosen to participate in a computer programming course taught by Eastern Airlines. The significance of this event was immense, as they were only choosing two students to partake in this program and it was based upon an aptitude test, in which Leroy placed within the top two ranking spots.

Upon graduation from high school, Leroy enrolled at the University of North Carolina. Leroy’s time at UNC was spent heavily focused on his studies, however, he found the time to be involved in a number of extracurricular activities. He was elected to several positions, such as, Vice President of the fraternity Phi Sigma Kappa, Vice President of the Lewis Dorm, Men‘s Residence Council, Honor Court Judge, and Senator of Morehead College, which was a nearby subset of UNC. In addition, he was also a tournament champion in bridge his junior and senior year and a fraternity all-star athlete in football, basketball, and softball. During the summer months of college, Leroy immersed himself in the business world, working in computer operations at JP Stevens, whom at the time was the second largest textile
company in the world. His hard work did not go unnoticed and he was named the roving shift supervisor his last two years of tenure with JP Stevens as a summer employee.

Following graduation from the University of North Carolina, with a BSBA in Business Administration in 1969, Leroy was hired at JP Stevens as a computer programmer. His sought after skills garnered him seven promotions in just four years, however, with a yearning to branch out on his own, in 1973, Leroy became an independent IT consultant.

As an IT consultant Leroy reached many coveted benchmarks in his career. He was on the first consulting team hired by the Bank of America in June of 1973. He followed that up by being the first IT consultant hired by Wachovia in September of that same year. In April of 1974, he continued his consulting expertise with RJ Reynolds, as the second consultant ever hired by their company.

With so much independent IT consulting experience , Leroy co-founded his own firm and did so with Wilden Associates, Inc., in August of 1974. Wilden Associates, Inc. split into two different firms in 1978 and Denton Associates, Inc. was born. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, the mission of Denton Associates, Inc. is to provide high-quality consulting services to a select group of companies in the most timely and cost-efficient manner possible.

Leroy’s success in business transcended the IT arena and diversified when he co-founded Integrated ID Systems, Inc., in 1990, when he recognized specific needs in the identification industry. Their services are currently used by the Men’s and Women’s US Open, the Grammy Awards, and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, to name a few. Continuing in his business diversification and after seeing a need in the secondary marketplace, Leroy founded TicketReturn™, as a part of Denton Associates, Inc., which was eventually turned into a separate LLC in August 2004. This company is a leading developer of integrated Box Office and Internet ticketing services.

He continued to develop his business ventures In 1985 with residential and commercial rental properties. In 1987, after seeing the need for quality marina services, he partnered to purchase Tega Cay Marina. Adding to his dossier of marinas in 1999, they then purchased Lake Club Marina and followed it up by the purchase of the Commodore Yacht Club in 2007.

After twenty five successful businesses since 1974, Leroy Denton has proven himself to be a person of very high aptitiude, who pioneers change, while always looking to expand his business portfolio. His tenacity for business is partnered with a sincere love of entrepreneurship.
